Leveraging decades of diverse subsurface experience, Carbon Strategists assists policy makers in achieving their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Whether sequestering carbon dioxide or deploying it to improve oil recovery, our expertise includes identification, screening and vetting of appropriate rock formations to accomplish corporate objectives. We know how to plan, implement and oversee carbon sequestration and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects. We match well design to site geology to construct a well with long-term project sustainability. Carbon Strategists recognizes the needs of our customers, managing risks to provide predictable results.
Decades of practice building cultures of excellence, learning, and accountability.
Applying state of the art subsurface technologies and equipment for safe applications of carbon dioxide.
A unique combination of talents, bonded by purpose and the pursuit of excellence.
Carbon Strategists (CS) provides world-class reservoir management consulting services for the international oil and gas industry. In addition, we identify and vet subsurface reservoirs that can safely contain and permanently store greenhouse gases and CO2 (CCUS).
We seek to add long-lasting value to our clients by identifying reservoirs which have the potential for significant additional production and recovery. CS can evaluate mature and aged brownfield assets for overlooked oil and gas resources. Our experts can identify and impact production and reserves through fit-for-purpose infill-drilling, production optimization, water flooding and enhanced oil recovery techniques.
Carbon Strategists consists of experienced drilling, reservoir and production engineers, geophysicists, geologists and petro-physicists with worldwide experience in advanced reservoir management. Whether your asset is oil or gas, sandstone, shale or carbonate rocks, onshore or offshore, our team can amplify the value of your asset. We use state-of-the-art technologies to simplify and quantify subsurface uncertainties so that our clients can make more informed decisions and have greater confidence in forthcoming results.
Carbon Strategists was founded by three veterans of the hydrocarbon industry, each with decades of broad ranging experience covering exploration through decommissioning and abandoning oil and gas assets. After having worked together on international projects, and noting the increasing importance and need for CCUS action, they founded Carbon Strategists LLC in 2023. Carbon Strategists is dedicated to providing solutions to this important and growing field.
Howard Smith studied liberal arts at Millsaps College graduating with a BBA in 1976. He joined Getty Oil in 1981 as a drilling representative. Howard’s assignments transitioned through mergers with Texaco and then Chevron. He used his expertise in well design and construction while participating in development and exploration projects in the Far East, Middle East and South America. These operations were completed on land as well as shallow, mid water, and deep water. Howard has been recognized for his technical competence also his leadership skills in developing learning cultures, communities of respect. Howard completed his career with Chevron as a drilling project manager in the ultra-deep Gulf of Mexico basin.
Bruce joined Amoco Production Company after graduating from the University of Missouri in 1980 with a BS in geological engineering. Bruce completed Amoco’s development program for production and reservoir engineering. He remained with the company through the British Petroleum merger in 1998. Bruce has completed technical and leadership assignments in North Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Eurasia, South America and Asia. He is an expert in development planning and optimizing reservoir performance. Bruce has been recognized as a leader and mentor, sharing his expertise, and improving organizational capability by developing young petroleum engineers.
John Holloway studied Chemical and Systems engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology before transferring to and graduating from Southern Polytechnic Institute (Kennesaw State University) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. John worked as a chemical process engineer for Monsanto, an operations engineer for Georgia Power Company, and followed by 32 years with Halliburton in Drilling and Logging Services. John worked in Operations, Technical Services, and domestic and international leadership positions before assuming Global Direct Sales business development responsibilities for Halliburton “Sperry” Drilling Products. His experience focused on the development and introduction of new drilling and logging technologies and the training for operations, safety and quality cultures for new oil, gas, and mining companies. After working in many countries across the globe, John retired from Halliburton. John has continued as mentor and advisor to international companies, both new or expanding oilfield service providers.
