Carbon Strategists was founded by veterans of the hydrocarbon industry with decades of broad range experience from exploration to decommissioning and abandoning oil and gas assets. Now that CCUS efforts are underway, that experience proves to be indispensable when seeking to properly sequester non-useful CO₂ into appropriate formations.

Howard Smith
Howard Smith served legacy companies Getty, Texaco and Chevron developing subsurface assets. Howard specialized in well construction on domestica and international projects. Howard advised the Plaintiff Steering Committee on the Deepwater Horizon/Macondo BP litigation. Howard formed Carbon Strategists LLC after evaluating the current CCUS industry goals and needs.
Robert Bruce Leggett
Bruce joined Amoco Production Company, later merged with British Petroleum, working as production and reservoir engineering in various advancing roles. Four decades later, Bruce continues his independent work, and recognizing the needs and issues of CCUS, became a co-founder of CarbonStrategists.
John K. Holloway
John ‘s career includes working as a Monsanto chemical process engineer and a Georgia Power operations engineer before a 32 year Gearhart-Halliburton career in drilling operations, district and country management roles, and as global drilling equipment sales manager. In 2023, he joined other professionals to explore the needs and opportunities concerning carbon capture and storage, and so formed Carbon Strategists.
